Michael Bolton eliminated from 'Dancing With The Stars'...

Michael Bolton got the boot from "Dancing With the Stars" on Tuesday after performing what one judge called the "probably the worst" performance ever in the show's 11 seasons.

The singer came into Tuesday's episode in last place, earning only 12 out of 30 points for his "Hound Dog"-themed jive with pro partner Chelsie Hightower.

Judge Bruno Tonioli said he hated the dance and thought it was "probably the worst" in the show's 11 seasons.

Before learning his fate, Bolton said he thought Tonioli's remarks were "inappropriate and disrespectful."

"Other than that, it was a phenomenal experience up 'til now," the 57-year-old singer said.

Bolton is the second contestant eliminated from this season of "Dancing" following David Haselhoff's ouster last week.

Hazy Build Up on Car Windows or Windshield - Haven't a Foggy Idea?

Moisture inside a car's passenger compartment can cause a haze or fog build up which can be quite annoying and even make it dangerous to drive. Hazy or foggy windows can make it very difficult to see out, especially when it's raining and the side windows have to be up. If the windows have a filmy build up, it's possible the heater core is starting to leak. When there's a leaky heater core, the coolant evaporates, it rises in the air and can settle on the inside of the windows leaving a filmy residue. If the heater core is leaking the smell of coolant inside the car will have a sweet/sour smell. For an auto technician that's detected this odor many times over the years, the smell is unmistakable. For the car owner, the smell could be a little more difficult to recognize but obviously unpleasant. If a heater core is suspected of leaking, check the coolant level (careful not to open the radiator cap in a hot cooling system). Next check the carpet to see if the heater core could be leaking inside the car. A bad heater core typically leaks inside and soaks the carpet.

Air Conditioning

If the heater core isn't leaking and there's no sweet/sour smell, the haze could just be caused simply from high humidity. The higher the humidity the more likely the windows will get fogged up. In example when it's raining, there's more humidity in the air so it's likely a fog will build up on the windshield more easily. A properly working AC system removes much of the moisture in the air. Many people don't realize that the front windshield defroster removes fog quickly, not because of heat as much as the air conditioning. Even when the temperature control is set to warm, the air conditioning is still working to help remove the fog. It does this by passing the air through the evaporator core, the moisture collects on the fins and travels out of the car through a drain. So if the AC isn't working correctly, the defrost will NOT work as efficiently to de-fog the windshield.

Air conditioning system needs to be fully charged and working properly.

Controls set to MAX or Recirculate. This allows the AC to remove moisture from the recirculated air.

If the car has a cabin air filter, it needs to be clean so it will not abnormally restrict the airflow.

How many of us go phone call to phone call shopping auto repair shops for estimates to do a specific repair to our vehicle? How many of us have had those cost estimates differ from significantly low to enormously high? How do we then sort through the information we get and decide on which auto repair shop will do the work for us?

Most shops don't seem to understand the importance of customer service, then there are those of us that operate on the basis of what is in the best interest of our customers. With this in mind, we have come across several customers asking for an estimate or would just walk in and ask us to "do a tune up" on their vehicle.

Now let me ask, how many different definitions are there for a tune-up? Honestly, it differs between shops and that's why you get so many different variations in your estimates. Go with the cheapest and you might just be getting plugs and wires and inferior parts. Go with the most expensive and you might just be getting everything from plugs all the way to all filters and fluids replaced.

What can you do to make this ordeal more simple and be more educated on what service it is you truly need and use that knowledge to get a more accurate representation of estimates between repair shops? Since your definition of a tune up might be different between several auto shops, start by asking the first one you call what they see is recommended by the manufacturer.

A good quality auto repair shop will have the resource to tell you. Once you have the info, ask the auto repair shop to break down their estimate or if it's a "package" price, break down each and every part they will be replacing. With all hear this talk of going green, and taking our dependence off of fossil fuels, but have we actually looked into what options we have available? For each solution, there are those who have a reason why we should not use that solution as the answer. Obviously, there are pros and cons to most energy sources out there.

I know with my care, if I use the regular octane, I do notice a big difference in the power and drive ability. Some cars require higher octane fuels (usually the cars with bigger engines). However, for most 4 cylinders and V-6 engines, it won't make any difference at all. Just save that extra money for something else.

Stay near the shady trees:

We usually do this anyway, especially during the Summertime, because our vehicles can get so hot inside. There is a cost effective reason you should try and do this also. Remember the talk about watching the gasoline evaporate once it spilled on the ground? This happens because of the makeup of gasoline. In warm and hot climates, this takes place even faster. When your car is really hot, the fuel will not last as long as it would in the cold weather. Not only will you feel a lot more comfortable, but you will feel a lot less poor also.

Utilize your storage:

This touches on our previous point. Keep your vehicle cool as much as you can. A garage will come in handy during the warm seasons also. During the Winter time, your car can drive a lot less stressfull when it's not below freezing temperature. This could also take a toll on your fuel costs. In the Winter, a garage will come in handy to make sure that your car and its fluids don't freeze.

Torrance Car Accidents Reduced With Police DUI Checkpoints

Torrance car accident attorneys have said that DUI checkpoints have helped decrease the number of Torrance car accidents. The seventh largest city in Los Angeles County and the 33rd largest city in California, Torrance has had its share of Los Angeles car accidents. In December 2008, a 57-year-old man was crossing Crenshaw from west to east when he was struck and killed by a southbound car. That August, a 42-year-old motorcyclist was killed on Maricopa when a semi-truck and trailer pulled into the intersection from southbound Alaska attempting to make an eastbound turn onto Maricopa. Last March, the 17-year-old driver of a Chevrolet Corvette traveling north on Crenshaw lost control of his vehicle, crossed into opposing traffic, and collided with a Mercedes and a Jeep Cherokee. The teen driving the Corvette died during surgery.

Adding to these grim car accident statistics are those culled by the California Highway Patrol's Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), in 2006, 12 people were killed and 401 were personally injured in Torrance car collisions. DUI collisions snuffed out three lives and personally injured 35. One pedestrian was killed and 27 were injured in traffic accidents. Motorcycle accidents injured 22 in the city.

These tragic numbers underscore the need for greater public awareness of traffic laws and more careful driving. Increased law enforcement efforts can also help. Some cities, like Torrance, have stepped up measures to remove unsafe drivers off its streets.

Seeking to reduce the number of people injured and killed in Los Angeles car accidents, Torrance Police have set up DUI/Drivers License checkpoints in various parts of the city. A major component of these checkpoints are to identify unlicensed drivers and DUI offenders, and to educate the public on the dangers of impaired driving.

Check points are held throughout the year in Torrance. One checkpoint, conducted in September 2008, in the southbound lanes of the 22100 block of Western, proved quite effective. Police found 19 unlicensed drivers or drivers not possessing a California license and three drivers with suspended licenses. Another 33 drivers were cited for other infractions and equipment violations. And 21 cars were impounded. Torrance Police scheduled another Torrance DUI checkpoint in March 2009 in the 4300 block of Pacific Coast Highway.

Although controversial, DUI/Drivers License checkpoints, when administered properly, can be an effective tool for getting dangerous and unlicensed drivers off city streets. These efforts can be particularly useful during holidays, as well as on Friday and Saturday nights to catch those driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

6 Things You May Not Have Known About Your Vehicle's VIN Number

Your car's VIN number is unique. While most of us understand that the VIN number found on our vehicles' is used for tracking and record keeping, there are several interesting facts about these numbers that are not so commonly known.

1. The VIN is a series of 17 alpha-numeric characters used to track everything related to that automobile, including insurance coverage, warranty claims, thefts, recalls, and registrations.

2. The practice of labeling vehicles individually began in Detroit in the 1950's, in an effort to accurately describe vehicles as they began to be produced on a large scale. It wasn't until 1981 that the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration effectively required all automobile manufacturers to provide a fixed-format, 17 digit identification number for every motor vehicle, trailer, motorcycle, and moped that was produced.

3. While many assume that VIN numbers are simply assigned sequentially, this is not the case. Each digit in you're the number serves a specific purpose. For example, the first character of the number identifies what country the automobile was manufactured in. If the vehicle were produced in the United States, the first digit would be a 1 or 4. Japanese vehicles' VINs begin with a J, Korea with a K, Germany with a G, and so on.

4. Every digit in the 17 character series is similarly coded for a different purpose. One digit specifies the manufacturer, while another describes the model of the automobile. One digit shows the automobile type, while another specifies the body style, and yet another digit identifies the engine type used for that particular model.

5. Most people are aware of the VIN on their dash. This is the most commonly used location, as it is easily viewable. However, there are several other places on your vehicle where the VIN may be found. While secondary locations vary by manufacturer, some locations are much more common than others. Most automobiles will have the number printed under the hood and/or on the front of the engine block. Some older vehicles will have it between the windshield washer unit and the front cab. Other places to find your VIN include under the spare tire, the back wheel well, or on the inside of the door jamb on the driver's side door.

6. It is possible to get copies of your keys made from the VIN alone. This is to allow key makers to create copies of the key when it is locked in the automobile. Some people are afraid that car thieves can walk up to a car, copy the number down, and order a key for your car. While this is technically true, most key makers require presentation of the title, registration, and/or picture identification under these circumstances.

You see, the primary purpose of the exhaust system is to carry away the engine's exhaust so it does not cause the engine to misfire for lack of air and to keep harmful gases away from human occupants that are susceptible pass out from their chemical composition. In most vehicles an exhaust manifold collects the fumes and allows them to flow through metal tubing to the end of the vehicle. However this method of removing the exhaust is very inefficient as an engine's cylinders fire at different times which causes there to be an uneven flow in the exhaust system which can severely reduce a car's true performance capabilities.

A good solution to this problem (assuming you're concerned about maximum performance and efficiency in your vehicle) is using headers. Headers are another type of exhaust manifold, but instead of being cheap and easy to make, they are quite larger, more expensive, and are different for each vehicle. The purpose of the header is to direct the exhaust away from the engine evenly as each header pipe is the same length and general shape as all the others. This allows the exhaust to flow quickly out the pipe and not back to the engine. After-market accessory companies make headers that are specially built for specific types of vehicle to increase power considerably while giving the exhaust an audibly pleasing noise.

In the end, it isn't a huge deal which exhaust system your car employs, but it can play a big role in improving both your economy and performance. So next time you're looking for a car, ask the salesperson about the exhaust system!

Swap meet, flea market, garage sale, auto jumble, or Carlisle, no matter what you choose to call it attending events to search out that perfect part for your restoration or vintage driver is a necessity for the classic and antique car owner. Having success at such events is a matter of strategy, knowledge and planning. After 30 years of clawing through heaps of old car parts and bins of miscellaneous in the search for parts, I have learned a thing or two. Here are timely tips for the novice part seeker.

The vast array of parts available at a swap meet can be mind boggling. At larger events such as the Spring Carlisle Collector Car Swap Meet & Corral, held in Carlisle, Pennsylvania there are literally miles of vendors. They say that to pass by each of the vendor's spots at an event like Carlisle swap meets is a 14-mile hike. Add that to the 1/4 mile walk just to get into the place and you really need to focus on your objective. Good sturdy walking shoes are a must at a big event.

Take it from a veteran when I say you will need more than a strong back to heft your prizes home. You will find your childhood little red wagon, with a big box attached is just the ticket for carrying your parts. While you may be able to heft parts you found at a local garage sale back to your car, carrying a water pump all day will get tiring. At the very least, take a back pack.

Dress for the weather. While it may seem obvious, it is not unusual to encounter cases of heat stroke, sun burn, or even hypothermia at outdoor events. It may seem like a nice sunny, summer day, but after four hours on a concrete parking lot, you may soon appreciate the benefits of cave living. At the very least, take a hat to outdoor events. A sun baked cranium may seem like a good excuse for some of your more questionable purchases. No part is worth the price of having the medics cart your lifeless corpse from the field.

Know what you need, what you want and what you would like. Taking a list is a must. Not only does it assist you in narrowing your search, it will stop you purchasing duplicates of parts you have stacked on the shelves of your workshop. Knowing that you have the things you need frees up resources for the special little options you would like. Never ask a vendor, "Will this part fit my car?" The vendor has no idea what car you have.

Along with your list of needs, wants and desires, carry a list with interchange information. I have a little black book that fits securely in my pocket. Unlike the local Lothario, my black book is filled with part numbers, drawings and other vital information about my cars. Included in the information packed pages are interchange lists. Just because a part isn't labeled specifically for your car, doesn't mean it doesn't fit. Knowing there are interchanges available between your car and others can save you money and anguish. Few things are as frustrating as finding out later that the cheap part you passed up, fits your more expensive purchase.

"He who hesitates is lost." If you find a rare part you need, buy it. With miles of vendors at large venues you may never cover all of them in one day. The chances of the part still being there after two days is pretty slim. That it is almost impossible to remember where that first guy's booth was is another matter. Going back also assumes that the part was not snapped up by another buyer, or vendor, while you are dithering. This is why you brought the list and your wagon. Buy it, cross it off your list, load it in your wagon, and move on.

I have lost track of the number of times I have heard, "I don't wanna lug it around with me all day".This is why one of the first tips was bring a wagon. I have yet to find a vendor that will not let you store the part you just bought at their space until you're ready to go. Speaking as an occasional vendor, "You paid for it. If you want to forget about it and never come back, it's money in my pocket."

Similarly, vendors often hear, "I saw one on the other side of the field for less". Vendors know that if you were too cheap to buy that one, then forget about this one. Chances are the vendor saw that cheaper one on the other side, too. That is why you are looking at the exact same part, but with a higher price tag.

Imagine the wad of cash you will need to take if you were actively looking for parts. You should add a bit extra to your wad for the unexpected bargains that you had not planned on purchasing. A dozen point sets may seem a bit excessive, but if you're planning to use the car regularly the bulk price tag will more than pay for itself. That little bit extra you take may make the difference between patting yourself on the back for your special purchase, or kicking yourself in the parking lot at the end of the day. Make sure that you have small bills. It is easier to haggle when you have exact change. Never flash the entire contents of your wallet at a vendor. Security concerns aside, it makes it difficult to plead poverty when you have a fistful of dollars.

Set your limits and know your prices. This goes both ways, for vendors and buyers. There is nothing more frustrating for buyers than encountering vendors who do not have clear pricing. Worse are the vendors who want the buyer to tell them what the part is worth. It is equally frustrating to encounter buyers who believe everything should be priced by the pound, preferably pennies a pound. Know what you are willing to pay for a part and be ready to haggle if the price is close to your budget. No foul offering less than asking price, but be reasonable.

At large events, if they have a map of the venue, get it. If they haven't make one. At some events, you can wander for hours only to find that you have been circling the same vendors over and over. A map or location notes will also assist in revisiting vendors that may have had something you wanted as an after thought. If you have some extra cash at the end of the day, a map can help you spend it before you head for the parking lot. Your map is also a great place to write down the names of vendors and other contacts.

The best bargains can often be had at the end of the day. While it is true that vendors often do not want to pack the parts home again, waiting till the end of the day could loose you the rare part you really needed. Better to leave behind a business card with your contact information and type of parts you are seeking, or buy it when you see it.

Will the franchised dealerships of General Motors claim that General Motors is not giving them the services they promised to the franchise agreement and now that they are insolvent they can't? Therefore, the franchisees should have the money back for their franchise fees, royalties and be free to break the franchise agreement.

When General Motors files for bankruptcy protection this means that many other vendors which they have not paid for six months in some cases may not get paid for well over a year or more and they may not even get the full amount. This means all the service companies and the companies that make the components for the cars are out serious dollars and they will have to lay off people, many already have.

These vendors may not be able to recover either and many more dealerships will go at a business. It gets worse because many cities rely on the sales of cars to help generate sales tax revenue for city services. Worse, consumers may not come back to General Motors for a long time, instead they might buy their competitors vehicles, perhaps automobiles made by Ford, Toyota or Honda?

Still one has to wonder, any guy in the world would love to have a 2010 Camaro SS, which will have a 6.2 liter V-8, capable of 4.6 seconds to 60 miles per hour acceleration; all for $30,000. Question is, can GM survive that long? Think on this.

7 Steps to Replace Fuel Filters

Steps to Replace Worn Out Fuel Filter With New One

First Step - The very first step is to relieve the pressure in your fuel lines and fuel filter. For this you need to start the car first carefully pull the fuel pump fuse or fuel pump relay out. This should be done with engine running. This way you can release all the fuel pressure from the fuel lines. Remember, if you don't release the pressure, explosion can take place while changing the auto part.

Second Step - The next step is to use wrenches to unbolt the fuel filter fittings. Now try sliding the fuel line off the bolt. Also unscrew the bolt on the other side of the auto part. Now that you have taken off the bolts, make sure you keep them properly. You will need them while fixing the new fuel filter.

Third Step - You can now easily remove the old fuel filter. While removing it, you may also find that a small clamp. A screwdriver can be used to release this clamp.

Fourth Step - Closely observe the position of old filter before removing it because you have place the new one in the same position.

Fifth Step - Don't forget to change the washers too. It is important that you change the pressure washer that can be found with the fuel line bolts.

We all know that car pooling can save workers a huge amount of money. Saving on gas bills, wear and tear on your vehicle and benefiting the environment are all good reasons to pool. As well a bit of social interaction helps to pass the journey time.

With the surging price of gas, the economies of car pooling have never been more obvious. There is a drawback however. Carpoolers carry the weight of 2, 3 or 4 people, and the strain on the engine and pressure on fuel economy is much greater than if a lone driver was travelling in the car.

There are some very common-sense ways that you can achieve better fuel economy - resulting in the best gas price possible for your journey. Here are a few:

* Keep your vehicle running well by ensuring it is properly maintained: dirty fuel injectors and dragging brakes can impact on fuel economy

* Don't overuse the air-conditioner. Try opening a window!

* Drive at a constant speed for as much of the journey as possible

* Avoid jack rabbit starts

* Coordinate your pickups and drop-offs to reduce any double tracking

* Remove any excess weight items - things that you might need or use rarely

* Don't leave the engine running while waiting for passengers to come to the car

It's a good idea to monitor your miles per gallon to know how well your car is running on a regular basis - it will also help to verify how well your changes in habits have impacted your fuel economy.

When your tank is near empty, take another reading to find out how many miles you have traveled on that tank of gas. If you're like most couples with young kids, nothing sounds worse than being cooped up with a boatload of geriatrics and your little kids. While the image of cruising is changing, it's still hard to get over this preconception. In reality, a cruise might be a perfect vacation for you and your family.

Here are some key things to think about when planning a cruise adventure.

1. Number one is cost and relaxation. While a cruise with a baby in a small cabin might work, packing 2 older kids in with mom and dad might spoil the relaxation of a cruise. Think of the cost/benefit trade-offs when planning and deciding to take a cruise. For example: No sex for a week, 8PM bedtimes and living in a perpetual mess you have to step over, may not seem like a vacation.

2. Most cruise lines have excellent and FREE child-care programs that will take care of kids 3 or older (2 or older for potty-trained kids on Carnival and Norwegian), which makes even thinking of 4 to a cabin imaginable. Many kids end up preferring childcare to being with mom and dad and it gives parents total flexibility in planning excursions and alone time. However, kids must be potty trained and may even be excluded if they violate "3 strikes" rules.

Additionally, you'll find out very quickly if your child does not like the childcare concept. On a recent cruise to Alaska, our five year old couldn't stay away from her new pals, while the couple we were traveling with could not convince their son to try it more than once.

3. Cruise ship pools do not allow swimming diapers due to different public health rules, so no babies in the pool.

4. Talk to cruise staff about the appropriateness of excursions for your kids. While cruises always try to have you reserve excursions up front, most, if not all, do not get completely booked until the days before they take place, so you can almost always book on the ship after talking to staff with direct experience.

Make sure to ask whether the excursion might be scary for little kids, whether rest rooms are available, and importantly if there's a chance dad might have to carry a four-year-old up 450 steps.

5. Bring a group. Cruising is really a perfect way to travel with extended family or another couple or two with kids. The size of the ship and the number of excursions allow for plenty of separation, while providing lots of opportunities for friends and family to re-unite at dinners or events.

Long travel gives dads the added concern of keeping kids from getting bored on the journey. There are many more ways to do this than the good old portable DVD player. For other travel activities with kids, there are some good ideas you can keep at the back of your mind when the "how much longer?" questions start coming fast and furious.

Lake Natron Chemical Plant: A Threat To Regional Eco-Tourism

A huge chemical production plant proposed for Tanzania’s Lake Natron has been developed the latest voice concern over by the African Tourism and Travel Association. Nigel Vere Nicholl, chairman of the African Tourism and Travel Association (ATTA), said: “Spectacular flocks of flamingos are one of the major attractions for tourists visiting the Great Rift Valley from all over the world. Given the massive contribution ecotourism makes to the East African economy, it just doesn’t make sense to jeopardize these wonderful birds and this very special and unspoilt place. If this development goes ahead who knows what may happen next”.

Tanzania is awaiting the number of tourists to climb from 580,000 in 2004 to one million in 2010. Presently many are attracted towards the one million Lesser Flamingos that breed on Lake Natron each year—the so-called ‘greatest wildlife spectacle on Earth’. Tanzania and Kenya gain worth US$2 billion annually through ecotourism while tourists visiting Lake Natron alone eat up US$500,000 each year.

Lake Natron in Tanzania is the only East African site where the Lesser Flamingo nests fruitfully. Plenty of food enables three quarters of the world’s population of this inscrutable bird to breed there, nesting sites in abundance and because the lake survives in almost total isolation, free from outside interruption.

The proposed development has globally been opposed at the proclamation from the African Tourism and Travel Association. BirdLife Partners worldwide and influential voices like Sir David Attenborough are encouraging the campaign. Graham Wynne, the RSPB’s Chief Executive, said: “If Lake Natron is developed, East Africa will no longer be such a lure for tourists. But it is the whole of the world that will be the loser. This is much more than just the loss of a few birds”.

Judging by several public opinion polls and surveys periodically conducted among motorists and consumers by reliable national polling organizations, automobile gas costs and prices have been at the very top of the consumer concerns in Canada and the United States in recent years. Clearly, high and escalating cost of fuel are a great source of worry and concern by the consumers in these countries, and most consumers would love nothing better than to have them in the lower range today, as in the yester years.

In deed, just about everybody and every institution in the society, including the government of the day, frequently tell us that having lower prices and costs for fuel would be just about the most desirable and beneficial thing for the society and for almost everybody - economically, politically, and militarily. Just recently, only in December 2007, the U.S. Congress enacted, and President Bush signed into law, the "Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007," designed to tackle precisely that very same concern - reducing the average driver's demand and usage of fuel by requiring that the driver meet a fuel economy standard of 35 MPG (miles per gallon) by the year 2020. That will mean an increase of 40 percent in fuel economy over current situation, literally meaning a savings of some 40 percent in the fuel costs of the average driver compared to today.

Fine. But does everybody, do most motorists, know the reason why, exactly, it is really good and beneficial that the average motorist or consumer should have good fuel economy in his or her driving, any way - aside from just the obvious economic reason or benefit that it would save you fuel and put more money in your pocket?

Following below, are some of the most significant reasons and benefits, aside from simply the personal economic or financial benefit accruing to the individual motorist, why it will still pay you, any way, to have a life of good fuel economy any way, regardless.

A. SURE, IT IS (IN PART) ABOUT MONEY

First, to be sure, a prime reason why American and Canadian motorists seek fuel economy for their vehicle rides, has to do significantly or largely with money — to save money in their fuel costs. At a time when gas prices are near record highs in America and Canada, it is, rather quite understandable that many people would be searching for ways to "beat the pump" to make gas money go a little bit longer.

Recent news reports saturate the newspapers and the news media and airways daily, with stories about the economic woes and horrors of motorists "at the pump" who face escalating gas prices. American drivers, from Los Angeles, California, to New York, and from Michigan to Florida, and in between, who were formerly used to spending about $30 a week to fill up a 15-gallon tank a year or two ago, are today now said to be spending some $50 or more, thus cutting painfully deeper and deeper into their already overstretched home budgets. While in Canada, from Ottawa and Newfoundland to British Columbia, and from Nunavuit to Mannitoba Winnipeg, the pump prices for the motorists have reached as high as Canadian $1.25 per litre (the equivalent of about $5 a gallon for the U.S.) only recently.

Clearly, then, the simple logic and commonsense is quite understandable that one major reason why the contemporary American and Canadian motorists would want — and do want — to find ways to have a higher or better fuel economy, is for economic reasons: namely, to make some real savings in the hopefully lesser amount of fuel they use in the operation of their vehicles, as well as in the escalating and increasingly crushing prices and costs of fuel. A money savings of up to $1,500 per year in fuel costs could be a major reward you get, for example, by choosing to purchase the latest most efficient vehicle of the year in a particular class, according to the latest U.S. EPA/DOE estimate! Not a small (money) saving by any means or calculations whatsoever!

However, there are more reasons and benefits. It is more than just that.

B. IT'S MORE THAN JUST SAVING MONEY, THOUGH

1. Strengthens the National Energy Security

But seeking to attain, or actually attaining, fuel economy and fuel savings, are NOT all about or only about money, however. Or, about personal money savings that go back into one's own personal pocket. Rather, attaining that goal achieves an even higher "reward" and purpose — a national, patriotic, and more "strategic" purpose for America and/or Canada. In deed, for the Mother Earth!

How? Simply by making it more feasible for us to start the process of climbing out of one big, dangerous, and increasingly entrenched, critical national security problem that North America has today — it's called the problem of "American dependence on foreign oil." For example, by recent estimates of the Washington Post, the U.S. citizens use 24 % more gas today than they did some 17 years ago in 1990 — thanks to the 84 million gas-guzzling SUV's they are now driving these days. A whole 24% more! In fact, this "strategic" or public benefit or purpose, rather than merely private or personal benefit or purpose, is the major reason advanced by U.S. Congress and President Bush only recently, in December 2007, when the Congress enacted, and President Bush signed into law, the "Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007" — a law designed to increase the supply of alternative fuel sources (of at least 36 billion gallons of biofuel by 2022), and to reduce the average driver's demand and usage of fuel by requiring that the driver meet a fuel economy standard of 35 MPG (miles per gallon) by 2020.

2. America's Increasing Dependence on Foreign Oil

But, get this. That is only counting since 1990! What about going a little further back before then? A May 2007 report by the NBC's Today Show featuring John Hofmeister, the Chairman of the Shell Oil Company, stated that in 1973 when the Middle East oil producers embargoed oil shipments to the United States in response to the Yom Kippur War, "At that time the country imported about 35 percent of its oil. Since then and through six different Presidents, America's dependence on foreign oil has increased to more than 60 percent." More than 60 percent — since 1973! But, get this connection: this 60-percent-plus figure in the amount of total oil usage by Americans today, is also largely imported, particularly from the Middle East. And consequently, what this means is that America remains increasingly "oil dependent" on foreign countries.

According to the U.S. Department of Energy, at least more than 50 percent of the oil used to produce the gasoline you put in your tank today is imported. The bottom line: America and American consumers continue to be increasingly vulnerable to (i.e., slavishly dependent on) foreign countries and sources for their economic and strategic life and the security of the nation, in terms of what price they'll pay for gasoline at any given point in time, or when they'll get a supply of gasoline or not, or even whether they'll get it or not, or under what terms and conditions, and so on.

Here's the point here, therefore. To put it in simple terms, the fact is that, a an individual motorist, any the gas-saving methods and measures you can find and employ which can actually reduce the amount of gas wastage you have and can economize and save on your gasoline usage, will translate directly into strengthening our national energy security as Americans and Canadians by reducing our dependence on foreign oil. Petroleum imports cost Americans about $4.4 billion per week (the U.S. Department of Energy figures). That's money, or a part thereof, that could be used to fuel our own American economy — in whole or in part.

3. Protects the Environment and Our Earth

Finally, saving gas, or having a better fuel economy, has yet another major dividend for the larger society and the humankind that is far more than just your personal pocketbook — it's good for the environment. Burning fossil fuel (meaning mostly gasoline and diesel that are the kinds of fuel used in automobiles), creates a whole host of environmental problems, such as adding 'greenhouse' gases, mostly carbon dioxide or CO2, to the Earth's atmosphere, creating air pollution and smog, contributing to global warming and climate change.

Consequently, having a good fuel economy in the operation of your vehicle, and using fuel more efficiently in that process, serves as well to protect the air, the land, water, and the wildlife around us, and to improve the quality of lives over all.

Vehicles with lower fuel economy burn more fuel, creating more CO2. By expert estimate, for every gallon of gasoline your vehicle consumes (burns), about 20 pounds of CO2 (170cu. Ft) is spewed into the atmosphere. The evidence suggesting regular aerobic exercise can reduce the development of some types of cancer is solid. Perhaps even stronger is the evidence suggesting regular aerobic exercise can have profound impacts on cardiovascular health. With regular aerobic exercise, the heart's efficiency increases, producing many beneficial effects for the body. Improved heart efficiency can also lead to a reduced risk of developing heart disease.

Improved Heart Efficiency

Heart efficiency and cardiovascular fitness can be determined by several different methods. One method is to measure an individual's resting heart rate. A lower resting heart rate after a period of aerobic exercise training indicates improved heart efficiency. The stroke volume (amount of blood ejected by the heart each beat) is increased and this essentially means the heart muscle does not have to pump as many times to get sufficient blood to the body. With aerobic exercise training, the heart muscle is strengthened and it does not have to work as hard as it did before the aerobic exercise training.

For example, at rest, an untrained individual may have a heart rate of 70 beats per minute (bpm) and a stroke volume of 71 ml/beat. This is equal to a cardiac output of approximately 5000 ml/minute. On the other hand, an aerobically trained individual with the same cardiac output will have a resting heart rate of 50 bpm and a stroke volume of 100 ml/beat.[1] The trained individual is able to get enough blood to his body with fewer beats than the untrained individual. This demonstrates just one adaptation the body goes through with regular aerobic exercise training.

Other adaptations that accompany regular aerobic exercise training include an increased total blood volume, increased blood flow to active muscle, and an increase in mitochondrial size and density. This increase in mitochondrial density is important for the use of fat as fuel during sub-maximal aerobic exercise. When a fat molecule is to be broken down to be used as fuel, it is broken down into a fatty acid and a glycerol molecule. The fatty acid is transported by the blood to the mitochondria where it is processed to be used as fuel. With an increase in the number of mitochondria in the muscle cells, the body can process and use more fatty acids as fuel. This conserves the potential energy stored as carbohydrate for other uses.[2] In other words, the body can use fat more efficiently during aerobic exercise and save the more precious carbohydrate fuel.

Aerobic Exercise and Heart Disease

Regular aerobic exercise can also reduce an individual's lifetime risk of developing heart disease. A study done at Stanford University found that the best predictor of death is lack of fitness.[3] Another study done also found that "physical inactivity is an important risk factor for cardiovascular disease."[4] How fit an individual is plays a major role in determining how long a lifespan that individual may have. This improvement in fitness can be achieved through regular aerobic exercise.

Another way that regular aerobic exercise can reduce the development of heart disease is through an increased number of capillaries in the body. When a person is aerobically trained, more capillaries develop to improve the oxygen and carbon dioxide exchange between blood and cells. If an artery is damaged or if blood flow is blocked, the blood can easily be rerouted to where it needs to get to and deliver the necessary oxygen. This increased number of capillaries occurs not only in the heart, but also in the brain and all other parts of the body, thus also reducing the risk of stroke.[5]

Studies have also shown that regular aerobic exercise may be able to reverse the effects of heart disease already occurring in an individual. Of all the risk factors associated with heart disease, many of them are modifiable by regular exercise and weight control. Risk factors for heart disease which can be reduced or eliminated in an individual through regular aerobic exercise include hypertension, high levels of fat in blood, type 2 diabetes, obesity and a sedentary lifestyle. Through regular exercise, these conditions can improve, and as a result, heart disease can be prevented and in some cases reversed.[6]

Before You Start

You will appropriate cycling attire, padded shorts, a good pair of cross trainers fitted with cleats for gripping the pedals, a towel and a water bottle. A typical spinning class has a spinning instructor, who is usually positioned in front of the class and directs the class through routines which simulate outdoor terrains, like hill climbs, intervals and sprints. Often, dance or rock music and even lights are used to encourage riders to work harder and discourage monotony. Expect a class to run from 45- 6- minutes, with the full cardio workout lasting from 30-35 minutes.

Proper form and Position

Proper form and position is important for a safe work-out and to be able to work out each part of the body according to your program. Bikes are adjustable so height will not be a problem. You will know that the bike is at the right height when your knees are slightly bent when the foot is touching the bottom of the pedal.

There are three seating positions in spinning. In the first position, called the centre, the rider sits on the saddle with hands resting lightly on the handle bars. The rider stands up in position two with the saddle between the legs with hands still lightly on the handle bars. Position three requires the body to extend over the handlebars, although the hands are still kept light for balance and parallel to the handlebars. Position three is the opposition used for the highest resistance more often seen in uphill climbs.

When standing, riders need to keep the back straight with the back of the legs touching the saddle. Hands should only be place lightly over the handlebars for balance and never for weight support.

The level of difficulty is affected by three things: resistance, cadence or speed, and position. Resistance can be varied and this is done by adjusting the flywheel attached to the pedals. Usually a knob is used to adjust the flywheel to the desired level of resistance, which can range from none at all to the most difficult. First-timers are often encouraged to choose a resistance level where they feel most comfortable.

The cadence is the speed at which the pedals turn. For more burned calories riders can use higher resistance levels and slower pedaling speeds.

Final Tips

Be comfortable. When spinning, do not lock your hips and keep your upper back and neck. Be on the lookout for painful sensations, especially around the upper back and neck and do not hesitate to step down when you feel faint or dizzy.

Cross-trainers attempt to provide a versatile compromise between walking and basketball, tennis or other court shoes. Generally, cross trainers have more rigid metatarsal (side-to-side) support than running shoes, and do not have adequate heel cushioning for long distance running, Cross-trainers work OK if running is limited to a few miles at a time but a cross-trainer shoe would likely break down faster than a purpose made running shoe.

Personally, I spend a lot of time on the internet. I probably spend more time on the computer than I do watching television. However, I have to admit that every now and then, I get curious enough to view the world through the eyes of the TV.

I'd gone months without watching satellite television because I figured I could do just about everything through my computer. Anyway, I eventually had to give in. We had company over, and they wanted to be entertained!...

What Do You Do When You Have Finally Gotten That Television Interview?

When you finally do get that long over due TV interview, I guess the only thing to expect is to not really know what to expect. All goes well, and you could be looking at the start of a promising career. Now, if things go horribly bad, you may end up just keeping your day job.

Here is a small sample of what you could look forward to:

You could have to tape your session prior to it airing. This will certainly give you a few different options. If you or the person giving the interview has a big gaffe, you can still salvage the interview. This is basically like a warm up. The final interview will not be viewed until all is sound and edited. This way, if you have a mental lapse, or some other unpredictable problem, you can take a breath and refocus.

Another situation would be if you were so lucky to be filmed live. This is where the nervousness can really set in. There is no cover up if you make a mistake, and you have no time to get it right before you go on. Some people may see this as possibly easier to do. But remember, you are live, and anything you do cannot be edited.

A different scenario may be where the cameras are just going wherever you decide to go. This is sort of like the real tv shows. Where nothing is rehearsed and nothing is practiced. This can be a little gut-wrenching, because you know that whatever you do will be caught on videotape. The person you're talking to may not be in the same area you are in. What you do in this situation is stare into the camera, but look as if you are looking and talking with someone you know. One example of this kind of interview would be an anchorwoman or man.

Whatever your interview focuses on, just study the subject you'll be talking about. Obviously, the more ready you are, the better the interview will turn out to be. It's always a plus when you can actually educate the person who is conducting the interview also. Do whatever you can to avoid having a boring and uninteresting interview.

Whenever you are in any of these situations, you should keep a few things in mind:

It's always better to be as prepared as you can be. Will you be talking directly to another person in a one 1 on 1 type of environment? Will you sit down with a small or large group of people? Make sure everyone involved is comfortable, including you.

It's more of a broad appeal. You may get the attention of people who do not even think about your company, but because you put out an ad, they are now interested.

What's In A Name? The Six Essential Elements You Need To Know

Selecting a name for your new business is not easy. A name does more than identify your company. It tells customers who you are, what you do, and more than a little about how you do it. Your name differentiates you from your peers, peaks customer interest, and invites further investigation -- if you do it right.

I didn't do it right. At least, not at first.

All entrepreneurs make mistakes, and I made one of my first ones right off the bat. Thrilled with the fledgling business I was starting, this precious enterprise so near and dear to my heart, I christened my company Diadem Communications. Diadem means crown-- a fitting name for what I felt was a
crowning achievement.

What does Diadem say to you? Does it evoke thoughts of me coming into your company, training your sales team to be the best booth staff ever, ensuring that every single trade show you attend turns out to be amazingly successful? Does it make me sound so good that you just can't wait to hire me?

No. It doesn't say that to me either. And even worse, it didn't say that to any of my potential customers. Going by name alone, no one would be able to determine the least bit of information about me, my company, or the services we offer. The name said nothing, and it did nothing for me.

The name had to go. More importantly, it had to be replaced by something effective. How do you come up with an effective name? Consider these six elements:

An Effective Name:

1. Tells Who You Are: Your name should reflect your identity. This is an essential aspect of branding. You'll be promoting this name, getting it in front of as many eyes as possible as often as possible. How do you want the public to think of you?

For some, that means integrating your personal name into the name of your business. This is very common in some professions: legal, medical, and accounting leap to mind.

Others prefer a more descriptive name. One successful small baker runs her business under the name "The Cookie Lady" because that's how her first customers identified her. It's doubtful that most of the customers even know her first name (It's Pat) but everybody in her market knows "The Cookie Lady".

2. Tells What You Do: It's incredible how many company names give little, if any indication of what type of work the organization actually does. Take the following examples:

* Smith and Sons
* Hulbert Brothers
* Only One

Can you tell me what any of these companies does? Of course you can't. They're relying on customers already knowing who they are (a tricky proposition for new businesses!) or by having their name found in 'context', such as a yellow pages or on-line business directory.

3. Tells How You Do It: Words are very powerful. By carefully selecting what words you use in your name, you can convey a great deal about your company's image. Consider the names of three different massage and bodywork centers:

* Champlain Valley Therapeutic Massage
* Clouds Above Massage
* Speedy Spa

All three companies are providing the same service: massage therapy. Yet the first appears to favor a more medical approach, the second, a dreamy, luxury approach, and the third focuses on fast service.

4. Differentiates You From Your Peers: Your company name is the first opportunity to tell customers how you differ from the competition. This can be done by emphasizing what makes you unique, pinpointing what aspect of your products and services can't be found anywhere else -- or that you do better than anyone else.

Consider the massage therapy example we looked at in number three. Each organization clearly has a different focus and approach to their customer base. They're attracting different types of clients, who are seeking fundamentally different approaches. All of which is conveyed in less than five words.

5. Peaks Customer Interest: Creating customer interest is an art and a science. Think carefully about your target audience. What qualities of your services are of the greatest import to your customers? What kind of words are likely to appeal to them?

Emphasize the important qualities in your name. For example, busy homeowners are drawn to the inherent promise of speed offered by "Bob's Instant Plumbing" while a reader in search of a good mystery will gravitate toward "Crime Pays Books".

Word choice is also important. Two yarn shops can both specialize in specialty fibers, but the one who labels themselves "All Hemp All the Time" will draw in a decidedly different crowd than the one named "Natural Beauty: Organic Yarns".

6. Invites Further Investigation: Customers are funny creatures. What one group finds to be funny and engaging turns another group off. You want your name to be inviting and approachable -- as those qualities are perceived by your target audience.
The best example of this may be seen in the individual investor segment of the financial services industry. Charles Schwab has spent years cultivating a classic, formal image -- but now that the consumer base is changing from 'old people with money' to 'everyone with a 401K', Charles Schwab has launched the "Talk to Chuck" campaign in an effort to be more approachable.

Make sure your name doesn't intimidate customers away! Some industries are more formal than others, but adopt pretension at your peril.

After following a series of simple step-by-step instructions to match my corporate identity with my service offering, I came up with the quintessential name: The Trade Show Coach. This name instantly tells customers what I do - assist companies with trade shows - and a little of the manner in which I do it - coach, rather than dictate, direct, guide, or organize.

See the difference? So did the buying public, some of who quickly became my best customers. The same thing can happen for you -- if you pick the right name.

With cars now becoming more costly, we buyers should reevaluate our needs and desires without actually settling for the smaller size and models that we really don't like or models that are not suited for our needs. Unlike people with huge money on their banks to spend, we should be aware where our money is actually going and learn to spend it wisely. A good car owner should know where he can invest his money wisely. You may find yourself with some extra money you can invest in buying a new vehicle but instead of replacing your used vehicle why not consider repairing, upgrading or adding a few frills, bells or whistles to give your car that "special touch". A new paint might make your car look brand new or installing new suspension will make your drive comfortable.

Since your car is more like your friend that is always by your side you should always treat it well. When you take good care of your car it will last longer, it will also need fewer repairs and eventually save you money for any future repairs. Wash, wax, and polish are some of the things that will help keep your car new and shining. You should also learn how to deal with wear and tear and how to handle your car properly. Like humans, your car also needs care and when you give the proper care for your car your effort will save you thousands of dollars in repair and maintenance costs.

Repairing early damages to your car will make it last longer and will save you more money than waiting for your car to break down. If your car is under warranty when it need repairs then you can just take it straight back to the dealer and not have to pay anything. If not, rather than taking your car to a dealer for repairs you can go to independent auto mechanic to repair your car. Actually there are many people who are afraid of that day when they will have to get their car repaired. Dealers tend to charge a lot more than independents and chains and there are auto mechanics that have a reputation for ripping off customers but there are still honest auto mechanics out there and you just have to find the right one.

Don't forget to get an estimate first of how much the repair of your car will cost you because it might not be worthwhile compared with buying another car. You can ask your trusted mechanic if it's a good idea to spend money for the repairs and whether the repair is going to do any good in the long run. If your car will only break down and experience the same problems the following month then it's probably not good to spend your money on fixing that car. Buying a car second hand can be a wiser and more economical choice for you than paying for a car repair. There are many ways you can do to find a high quality second hand car. You can try to look in newspaper or even on the Internet. Car finder websites have become popular place for buying and selling second hand vehicles.
