Personally, I spend a lot of time on the internet. I probably spend more time on the computer than I do watching television. However, I have to admit that every now and then, I get curious enough to view the world through the eyes of the TV.

I'd gone months without watching satellite television because I figured I could do just about everything through my computer. Anyway, I eventually had to give in. We had company over, and they wanted to be entertained!...









What Do You Do When You Have Finally Gotten That Television Interview?

When you finally do get that long over due TV interview, I guess the only thing to expect is to not really know what to expect. All goes well, and you could be looking at the start of a promising career. Now, if things go horribly bad, you may end up just keeping your day job.

Here is a small sample of what you could look forward to:

You could have to tape your session prior to it airing. This will certainly give you a few different options. If you or the person giving the interview has a big gaffe, you can still salvage the interview. This is basically like a warm up. The final interview will not be viewed until all is sound and edited. This way, if you have a mental lapse, or some other unpredictable problem, you can take a breath and refocus.

Another situation would be if you were so lucky to be filmed live. This is where the nervousness can really set in. There is no cover up if you make a mistake, and you have no time to get it right before you go on. Some people may see this as possibly easier to do. But remember, you are live, and anything you do cannot be edited.

A different scenario may be where the cameras are just going wherever you decide to go. This is sort of like the real tv shows. Where nothing is rehearsed and nothing is practiced. This can be a little gut-wrenching, because you know that whatever you do will be caught on videotape. The person you're talking to may not be in the same area you are in. What you do in this situation is stare into the camera, but look as if you are looking and talking with someone you know. One example of this kind of interview would be an anchorwoman or man.

Whatever your interview focuses on, just study the subject you'll be talking about. Obviously, the more ready you are, the better the interview will turn out to be. It's always a plus when you can actually educate the person who is conducting the interview also. Do whatever you can to avoid having a boring and uninteresting interview.

Whenever you are in any of these situations, you should keep a few things in mind:

It's always better to be as prepared as you can be. Will you be talking directly to another person in a one 1 on 1 type of environment? Will you sit down with a small or large group of people? Make sure everyone involved is comfortable, including you.

This year has been an interesting one so far for us that pay attention to the popular auto industry. I, myself have always been into the muscle cars. I have to admit that I do look down on smaller, less powerful vehicles without even realizing it. I've seen some pretty crazy looking vehicles so far this year. I heard that somewhere in India, there was a revolutionary of sorts. Supposedly, they have created the Planet's cheapest car. What will this do to the auto industry? A $2,500 car? Those of us who are into saving the planet and keeping it green, would love the forward steps in technology. However, if it's more of a golf cart type vehicle, what's the use? Especially now that the Cadillac Escalade is now being made into a Hybrid car.

With TV and radio ads, the point is to reach people who may not necessarily be interested in what you have to sell. This is because it is not a select audience you're trying to target. It's more of a broad appeal. You may get the attention of people who do not even think about your company, but because you put out an ad, they are now interested.

The sky is the limit when it comes to the traditional radio and TV ad spots. You can paint verbal images into the listener's heads through good copyrighting methods in radio. With television, you can do the same with images and actors. Different things should be done with different media types. Doing research on which ones are right for your company would be a good idea.

Those are the good things that can come out of such advertising methods. However, we all are familiar with the price of such methods. The reason these types of advertisements really don't work, is because you need to reach your target audience numerous times before they actually become familiar with your brand. Sometimes between 3-7 times before they even notice your company. This is the reason free online methods of advertising is better for small businesses.

Many small companies just don't have the money to pay for a single radio or television spot, let alone enough capital to put out several ads just to gain brand recognition. This is why internet advertising and all of the new technologies are so appealing to businesses with small budgets.
